SouthWest Airlines Close to Setting Up Service to Hawaii?
March 5, 2012For those of you that love Southwest Airlines and always wish they had offered service to Hawaii, well you are in luck as Southwest is opening up more about whether or not they will be offering service to Hawaii. We know that Southwest has already ordered the planes for them to be able to fly to Hawaii and it was just a matter of time. Last week Southwest’s CEO Gary Kelly had a press conference and gave even more info about Southwest’s new service to Hawaii. What he said was that they don’t have plans right now to begin offering service to Hawaii this year because they are still some union labor agreements that need to be worked out before they can start. However many think that this may be a cover up and a sign that Southwest is once again having cold feet about flying to Hawaii. Others think that they may be having problems getting ETOPS certification which is the same thing that Allegiant Airlines went through as well when trying to offer service to Hawaii. Whatever the real reason is I hope they get things squared away quickly and offer service to Hawaii. Having more planes that fly to Hawaii will only help the Hawaii travel industry and also help consumers by adding more competition, which could result to lower Hawaii airfare prices. We will just have to wait and see how this plays out.
