whaleHawaii has always been known as a tourist hotspot with its pristine beaches, breathtaking sceneries and exquisite cuisine you can enjoy while on your trip. Another great thing about vacationing in Hawaii is the main activities you can do while visiting. One of my own personal favorites is seeing the Humpback whales that come to Hawaii every winter. Some fun facts about these humpback whales that visit the Hawaiian islands each year include the following things:

  • Each year, around 1,500 to 3,000 Humpback whales brave the Hawaiian waters.
  • Humpback whales are considered one of the oldest animal species in the world.
  • They can grow up to 45 feet long and can weigh around 40 tons.
  • Sadly, they are now considered as endangered species.
  • If you want to experience whale watching, you should visit Hawaii during the months of January to April.
  • Once you see a whale, you should make sure that you are at least 300 feet away from them. This is because they are protected under the Marine Mammals Protection Act.
  • There are whale-watching cruises that you can checkout to get up close and personal with these animals.

Now that we know some fun facts about these Humpback whales, it is now time to list the best places that you should visit to experience the very unique whale watching activity. Basically, there are four islands in Hawaii that you can go to if you want to see Humpback whales. These islands are:

  • Lanai
  • Molokai
  • Kauai
  • Oahu
  • Maui- Known as the best area for whale watching.

The waters in the listed places above are all protected and are called Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. Aside from a lot of whale cruises available, they also have whale watch boats.

In addition to the places listed above, you can also add Oahu to your itinerary. If you want to know some of the best spots on where you can spot these whales, you can visit the following places:

  • Makapu‘u Lighthouse, Oahu
  • Hanauma Bay, Oahu
  • Diamond Head Scenic Lookout, Oahu
  • Papawai Point, Maui
  • Sanctuary Education Center, Kihei, Maui
  • Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, Kauai

These are just some of the best spots where you can enjoy these amazing animals in Hawaii.
