For those of you living in the San Diego area and are looking to visit Hawaii for cheap you are in luck. Both Alaskan Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are offer special rates from San Diego to Honolulu this year. The dates of travel must be January 24, 30, 31, or February 6, 7, 13, 14, 27, 28 or in March on the 5th, 6th, 12th, or 13th. You must leave Honolulu on January 25, 26, February 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, March 1, 7, 8, 14, 15 As you can see this is for the real soon so if you are thinking about coming to Honolulu you better book quickly. The cost if you travel these dates is $129 each way on Alaskan Airlines and $131 on Hawaiian Airlines. These rates might not be available on all dates listed above as they do sell out quickly. Hopefully soon there will be even more airfare specials to more Hawaiian islands coming from the West Coast.
One of the easiest ways to tell how the Hawaii travel market is doing as a whole is looking at the hotel occupancy rate on all the islands. This past week the numbers for the last quarter came in and they were pretty good. The hotel occupancy rate for Hawaii was 86% full which is pretty strong numbers. The average room rate was around $300. If you look at the occupancy rate and also look at the average cost per night you can see the Hawaii travel market ended the year strong. In previous years the hotel occupancy would be high but the average night cost would be low. With the price being high and the occupancy rate also being high it shows that the Hawaii travel industry is still going strong. It should be interesting to see how we do in 2012 but many are expecting strong numbers once again as the international travel to Hawaii continues to increase with the increase of flights coming to Hawaii. If you are looking to travel to Hawaii anytime soon I recommend checking for hotel rates as soon as possible because the closer to the date of travel the higher the rates will be.
Great news for those for those of you living in the Bay Area that want to travel to Maui. Hawaiian Airlines is offering a great airfare deal from San Jose to Maui leaving on January 10th, 12th, 19th or 26th and returning on January 25th, 27th or 29th. If you travel on these dates the price is $110 each way. So basically you can visit one of the world’s most beautiful places for just about $200, it doesn’t get any better than that. If you are interested in getting these great deals I recommend going to Hawaiian Airlines site as soon as possible as they will sell out quick. If you can’t travel on those dates don’t worry because we are hearing that Hawaiian will be offering even more deals and from other locations. This should be a fun year for airfare prices!
We at Discount Hawaii wanted to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas or as we say in Hawaiian Mele Kalikimaka. Here’s to a great new year.
Yesterday both Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines had airfare deals that were pretty amazing to me. Both were offering one way fares for $149 to all of the Hawaiian islands from Maui to Oahu. The prices will vary from city to city but it looks like most of the West Coast locations have these prices available. The dates to look at to get these rates are between January and March. If you are looking for great travel deals to Hawaii than check out Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines quickly before these deals sell out. If you can’t travel between January and March don’t worry as we should be seeing a lot more deals coming from the airlines as they compete with one another for your business. The next period that should be having some deals for is late April to late May. During this period Hawaiian Airlines and Delta offer discounted airfare rates as this is one of their slow periods.
A lot of people have been asking me when is the best time to travel to Hawaii meaning when is it the nicest and also the cheapest. Well the best time to travel to me is either in February or October. During this time it is easy one of the least expensive because it is not during a peak season. Another good thing about it not being part of the peak season is the fact that the beaches are less crowded. If you were to come to Waikiki in say July, the beach would be completely full. During the non peak months like these hotels also offer a lot of special deals and rates to attract visitors so again you could find an all inclusive deal for not much. Another reason why I like the months of February and October is because it is also less humid. If you are not used to humidity then this could be the perfect time for you as the Summer months can get really warm and humid. If you are looking to travel to Hawaii and are looking for a great deal I highly recommend you checking out these months as you should find great rates on airfare, hotel and even car.
The big news this week for the Hawaii travel industry was the fact that Hawaiian Airlines announced that beginning next year they will launch non stop service to and from New York to Hawaii. This is really big news as this will be the first time Hawaiian Airlines has offered service to the East Coast. Hawaiian Airlines has been more focused on the West Coast, Asia (Japan and Korea) and Australia. The other thing that I found amazing from this announcement is the fact that the flights will be non stop. Hawaiian Airlines has purchased new larger jets that will be able to accommodate these longer flights. As a special to promote this new service Hawaiian offered discounted rates of $200 each way for travel in the month of June. As you can imagine this deal sold out in a matter of hours. Hawaiian Airlines has always been one of my favorite airline carriers and I’ve only used them only lately to get to the mainland. With Hawaiian offering these new flights you can only imagine them expanding upon it and later on offering more East Coast cities. The Hawaii travel industry is always open to new ways to bring in more travelers to Hawaii and I imagine that Hawaiian will have a lot of success from this.
My wife and I recently went to the North Shore on the island of Oahu to check it out since we haven’t been there for a while. My friend, who is an avid surfer, has a house out there and we got a chance to hang out over there. We did the typical tourist things when visiting the North Shore which included going to Sunset beach, turtle beach and getting some shave ice. I’ve never been to turtle beach before and wanted to check it out and it was amazing. There were two huge turtles lounging on the beach with people surrounding them to get some pictures. The good thing about turtle beach is that there are people supervising to make sure people don’t get to close to the turtles and to protect them. If you have a chance to visit the North Shore make sure to check out turtle beach. Here is some video I found of turtle beach so you can get a sense of what I’m talking about.
This past weekend was the APEC conference which had world leaders from China, Russia, Japan and the US all converging to Hawaii for meetings on ways of improving the world economy as well as other issues like the environment. For people living in Hawaii they were more concerned about the traffic APEC would cause. Due to security reasons the freeways, streets, parks and beaches were closed so it was difficult to get around for some. I will admit the traffic was bad at times but overall this was a win for Hawaii as it showed we could handle large conferences and hopefully more will be coming to Hawaii as well. For those who were interested in how bad the traffic was, here is a video from this past weekend.
